ITALIAN SUMMER ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM

ITALIAN SUMMER ARTIST RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Hosted by Anna Miller BFA, MBA | HMUIRL Art and Studios

Overview

The Italian Summer Artist Residency is an immersive experience designed for artists who are ready to focus, create, and expand their practice within an international and culturally rich setting.

Based in Northern Italy, this residency offers dedicated studio time, access to local creative communities, and the opportunity to engage directly with Italy’s deep artistic heritage. Artists will work either independently or in collaboration with the program director while being surrounded by a region shaped by centuries of craft, design, and visual culture.

This is not just time to make work.
It is a space to rethink how your work exists in the world, informed by place, history, and material tradition.

Cultural Immersion

A central component of the residency is immersion in Italian culture, where art is not separate from daily life, but embedded within it.

Residents will experience:

  • Access to regional museums, archives, and exhibitions
  • Exposure to Italian approaches to material, design, and craftsmanship
  • Opportunities to observe and engage with centuries-old artistic traditions
  • Day trips to nearby cultural centers and historic sites

From small local studios to internationally recognized institutions, residents are encouraged to draw inspiration from the surrounding environment and integrate these influences into their work.

This cultural context is intended to expand perspective, challenge ways of working, and deepen conceptual development.

Independent Residency

Designed for artists who want space, focus, and autonomy.

Residents will:

  • Work independently within a shared studio environment
  • Set their own pace and creative direction
  • Participate in optional critiques and discussions
  • Engage with local studios and the surrounding environment

This path is ideal for artists who are self-directed and looking for uninterrupted time to produce work.

Collaborative Residency (with Anna Miller)

Designed for artists seeking deeper engagement, feedback, and creative exchange.

Residents will:

  • Work closely with Anna Miller throughout the residency
  • Receive consistent one-on-one mentorship and guidance
  • Engage in collaborative dialogue and process-based development
  • Receive support in building a cohesive body of work and professional direction

This path is ideal for artists who want accountability, structure, and active creative support.
